Amazon’s Whispersync – A whole new way to read

weightliftingLife has truly been busy. I’m still adjusting to my new job in which my lunch hours are often becoming cram sessions for my next meeting and there’s been a lot going on. From the gym to starting a new Bible study, from weekend concerts to birthday celebrations and more, It seems like my weekends are over before I can even find time turn on my Kindle or open a new book. The consequence is that I’ve started reading 4 books but I’ve yet to reach the midway point through either of them.

I began to wonder if there was a way I could incorporate reading into my more mundane duties. I often listen to the radio on my computer at work while I’m updating my projects with notes of what’s been completed, and I’m always plugged in to the TV monitor while pushing out the miles on the treadmill. Was there something I could do the turn these times into reading opportunity?

whispersync_314Recently Amazon has been offering me Whispersync with the books that I purchase. Most of the books I purchase through Amazon.com are actually free so the $4 to $8 upgrade to be able to listen to my book on the Audible app and have it sync to my Kindle books when I want to actually read them was a no-brainer.

Right now I’m testing out Orphan Train: A Novel by Christina Baker Kline, a somewhat dark story of how a modern-day orphan and an old woman find commonality and friendship in their sorted past, and I’m finding the that I’m really enjoying the narration of Jessica Almasy and Suzanne Toren. I can listen to it on my commute to work in the morning, while I’m running or lifting at the gym and even while I’m doing chores around the house.

The steps are easy. As I select my purchase on Amazon, I have add the book to my cloud account so I can read the book on any of my devices. Then I’m given the option on Amazon.com to upgrade and add Whispersync for a small fee. Once I confirm my purchase I go to my audible app on my phone and click on the refresh button. When the new book is visible I tap it to download it to my phone.

carbook_314For those of you bookworms who are finding your life is becoming a bit hectic, I truly recommend adding the Whispersync upgrade to your Amazon Kindle purchase. Especially if you are part of the reward programs that allow you to get free books from Amazon.com during special promotional periods.

My next purchase? Maybe I’ll get Dragon Naturally Speaking so I can keep on track with these blog posts while I’m on the move. I wonder if there’s an app that lets me incorporate my phone into the mix.

How do you find time to read when your life becomes full of activities and commitments?

*Amazon did not solicit me for this post, nor am I getting paid to present my opinion. I chose this topic because I feel that there are lots of bookworms truly struggle with finding reading time and they can benefit from a service such as this.

Bookworm is the reading hippy who uses books to escape reality and take far out trips. In the afterglow of her trips, Bookworm is always struck with enlightenment from what she has just read. She sees how modern literature is influencing cultures, society and even future histories. If you dig it, stay tuned as Bookworm shares her thoughts and ponderings related to the books she’s reading.
