I work in the business environment full time, so getting inked isn’t something I can partake in all the time. However, I do have a couple of pieces that are strategically placed to be easily hidden by conservative business clothing.
Recently I’ve been thinking of getting another piece, but I want it to be based around literature. I did a little research and while I haven’t make up my mind yet, I hope that these pieces inspire you to think along the same lines.
I’ve noticed a trend that in society where Gen X refuses to grow up in a way. Over the years, Primetime TV hours, WWE Wrestling, video games and even The Muppets have all grownup with us. Apparently so has illustration because now some of our favorite childhood stories are now our favorite tattoos.
Where the Sidewalk Ends
Where the Wild Things Are
The Chronicles of Narnia
You just can’t get away from classic literature when it comes to tattoos. While I’m used to seeing the literary quotes from Pride and Prejudice and Little Women, these really struck me.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
The Great Gatsby
The Wizard of Oz
While we’ve all seen An American Werewolf in London and Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde tattoos before. But these art pieces really inspired me to think a little outside the box when considering a literary tattoo.
Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
It seems like we’re getting more and more adaptations making their ways to theatres these days. From classic literature to modern novels, it seems like we can’t get enough of these stories and love to commemorate our love in a permanent way.
The Harry Potter Series
The Divergent Series
Lord of the Rings
Game of Thrones
Whether you’re thinking of getting your first tattoo or adding to your existing ink, I hope this has inspired you to consider something literary in nature. As for me, I’ve not made up my mind yet, so I’ll keep searching and thinking until I find what I’m looking for.
What literary work would you love to see turned into a tattoo design?
