Breaking Dawn 2
Breaking Dawn 2

Spoiler Alert – During this movie review I am going to spoil it, so if you haven’t read the book or seen the movie, beware.

This past weekend was my birthday and, knowing how much I love the Twilight Saga books and movies, my boyfriend took me to see the last movie in the series – Breaking Dawn – Part 2. Wow, what an epic conclusion to the book and movie adventure that fans like me have been a part of since the first book, Twilight, came out!

There were a lot of magical moments in this movie and a few shortfalls. Below are my biggest 3 of each.

Magical Moments:

  1. Bella Swan
    Bella Swan

Kristen Stewart’s transformation into Bella Swan’s vampire self. Wow! I never really liked Kristen Stewart when she played the awkward, clumsy, human Bella. It just seemed like she was try too hard to be something that should be effortless. But effortless came when Kristen’s character was finally transformed into her vampire self, full of grace and poise. The change was noticeable and even her wardrobe seemed to take a step up from her high school wardrobe of past years.

  1. Covens
    The Covens

Interaction with the other covens. As Carlisle reaches out to his friends all over the world, both “vegetarian” and not, each of the coven members meet at the Cullen’s home. The interaction between each of the vampires and how they show off their powers was great. It seemed natural that this is how it would happen should these people actually exist. There was no weirdness or feeling as if the movie took a backseat to emphasizing the uniqueness of the characters themselves.

  1. Battle Scene
    Battle Scene

The epic battle scene at the end of the movie. While on a possible future, Stephanie Meyer was a genius to put this scene into the movie. While we hated to see Leah, Carlisle and Jasper bite the dust, it was excellent to see how an epic battle between these two groups would had actually played out. A great addition! (Although my boyfriend felt a little cheated that the epic battle wasn’t part of the real timeline of the novel. He said he felt a little cheated.)

Shortfalls:

  1. Renesmee
    Renesmee

Baby Nessie was a little unsettling as a baby. Was she CGI? Because she seemed a little unnatural to me with her serious face, thick eyebrows and wide-set eyes. Luckily Nessie grows quickly into a young child because Baby Nessie creeped me out a little.

  1. New Cullen Family
    New Cullen Family

The scenes that show Renesmee growing into a little girl. Again, the scenes were like what you would see in a family movie or something. Not quite real. And it seemed a lot of the time as if the scene would end with the family posing as the perfect family portrait. It just seemed unnatural. The most natural scene actually took place as Bella read Renesmee a story to put her to sleep the little girl wakes to ask if people are going to die because of her. Otherwise it was a little unbelievable which is too bad because I read in a magazine that Rob and Kristen actually got along really well with McKenzie Foy (Renesmee) and would often treat her as if they were responsible for her on the set.

  1. JD Padro
    JD Padro

The introduction of Nahuel in the movie never mentions his father or his sisters and he was seriously downplayed. In the book Nahuel, the immortal human, was created by a vampire who was experimenting in creating immortal human children. Nahuel, played by JD Padro from Revolution, actually has two older sisters and at least one younger sister that has the same affliction he does. Also, it doesn’t mention that these “male” human immortals seem to be venomous and are able to turn humans into vampires.

Stephenie Meyer did an excellent job producing this film. It seemed to create more closure than the book, though it didn’t stray from the book’s story-line whatsoever, with the exception of the epic battle scene. I’d give this movie 5 of 5 stars for sure and would encourage any Twilight fan to run out and see it in theaters.

I gave you my three biggest magic moments and shortfalls for Breaking Dawn Part 2. What are yours for this movie?
